Tyler had his second dentist appointment today. He was so excited about it, which makes me happy that he's not afraid of the dentist. He got back to the chair and the hygentist came out to ask me if I minded if they tried bite wing x-rays today. I told her not at all, as long as he didn't mind. So they were able to get the x-rays done. Pretty soon, I hear him chatting. Chatting so much that I have no idea how they managed to clean his teeth! The lady next to me that was waiting for her daughter says, "wow, he's not afraid at all, is he?". I said, NO! Not at all, he's just like I was (am). LOVES going to the dentist. Well, pretty soon I hear a conversation between the hygentist and Tyler. It goes something like this.
Hygentist: So, Tyler, do you eat a lot of candy, gum or sweets. Tyler: No, I don't eat gum ever. Sometimes I chew it though. Hygentist: Giggle, ok, great! Hygentist: What about soda (aka pop). Tyler: No. My mom won't let me have any. Hygentist: Ok.
It was funny, because she probably thought I set him up to that answer, but he really doesn't drink any pop. If we go somewhere where they serve pop the only thing I'll let him have is Sprite. Otherwise he will have white or chocolate milk. What's even funnier is the thought of ordering milk at a restaurant for me makes me gag--but it's ok for them. Weird.

We went to Buccanneer Bay at Weeki Wachee on Saturday for our agency picnic. The boys always have a lot of fun there, but it's getting a little harder now because Tyler is big enough to go on the waterslides, but Austin still has to stay in the kiddie pool area. He really wants to do what Tyler does, but he has fun in the kiddie area. I'm such a mom...I like the kiddie pool area better than the beach now too. I get sick of sand in everything when we go to the beach. Mix sand in with a little sweat and sunscreen and it's a disaster! So instead, I will go to the kiddie pool where it's chlorinated and has lounge chairs set up on a patio. Yes, I'm getting old. Austin and I did go in the springs to swim. It's very cold, 72 degrees year round, but he doesn't mind. It was refreshing though because it was 90 degrees and humid outside.
Saturday night we went over to Melissa and Rob's house. That is always a good time. It works out so well because we can let the boys play with her son Robby and our Melissa came so she was able to hang out with Melissa and Rob's daughter Kendra. Our friends Jody and Rod, and their son Justin came over, as well as Scott and Kelly and Gary. Melissa and Rob remodeled their 2 1/2 car garage and turned it into a sports bar area. They have a premium stocked bar, pool table, big screen tv and huge karaoke system, so there's just about something for everyone. Karaoke was fun.
Sunday morning was a record setter. Austin slept until 10 and Tyler slept until 11, when Austin had to wake him up! I couldn't believe it! The only reason I let Austin wake him up is because I've been on this crepe kick and had to go to Bob Evans for breakfast crepes. Actually, Austin may have slept past 10 too, if it weren't for Dearden calling and waking us up.
We went over to Dearden's house for dinner Sunday night. After dinner, Chris & I, Melissa, Chris and Robin and Justin and Tammy played Cranium. First time I've ever played and I LOVE IT! Highly reccomend it for a "team" game.
Keeping our fingers crossed that we don't have any hurricanes in the brewin' for this weekend--trip to St. Pete Beach with the Godparents.

- Karma -
|
|
When I was in 11th grade a guy I went to school with, Tim Taber, wore a t-shirt that advertised for Nike, but had something about karma on it. I asked him one day what karma was and he told me it was negative energy. I didn't really get it, but always thought about it when he wore that shirt.
The other day I was listening to a morning show on the radio and they were talking about karma, which led them to have people call in tell them the worst thing they ever did, as in crime. It would be anonymous. I listened and laughed at some of the people I heard. One girl called and said she just ran a toll on the 417 in Orlando. They teased her because that is the WORST crime she's ever committed.
Later that day I stopped by Blockbuster to rent a movie. There wasn't anything specific I was looking for, other than a movie we could all sit down and watch. So, I grabbed Hitch. Melissa told me she's seen it and it was good. So I thought about it, and because I am O/C I decided I didn't want a movie that one of us has already seen. So, I grabbed Ms. Congeniality 2. But, instead of putting Hitch back where it belongs I decided to commit a video store "crime" and replace it under the Ms. Congeniality 2 cover. I walk up to the counter and wait in the long line. And wait. And wait. Finally, I think to myself, I'm next. I look at the movies I've picked out once again and to my disappointment, see that I didn't grab Ms. Congeniality 2, instead it was A Nightmare On Elm Street. Some jackass had done the same thing I did...
So, as I walk back to get the RIGHT movie, I start thinking about karma and it was at that time I consciously noticed that bad karma had officially affected me!

Thanks Crime Dog for posting this on your blog. Complaint Quote:
A wake-up call from Luke's jets Jun. 23, 2005 12:00 AM "Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base: Whom do we thank for the morning air show? Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 a.m., a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune! Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns' early-bird special? Any response would be appreciated."
The response, made with the class and professionalism we have come to expect from our friends in uniform, is destined to become a classic:
Regarding "A wake-up call from Luke's jets" (Letters, Thursday): On June 15, at precisely 9:12 a.m., a perfectly timed four-ship of F- 16s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt Jeremy Fresques.
Capt. Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day.
At 9 a.m. on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend.
Based on the letter writer's recount of the flyby, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the president of the United States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured.
A four-ship flyby is a display of respect the Air Force pays to those who give their lives in defense of freedom. We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.
The letter writer asks, "Whom do we thank for the morning air show?"
The 56th Fighter Wing will call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives.
Lt. Col. Scott Pleus CO 63rd Fighter Squadron Luke Air Force Base
The guy who wrote the original letter published an apology in today's paper. He said he'd been getting a bunch of calls from the base and that he had no idea that it was for a funeral.

Background: Several months ago we had a shooting death of a 13 year old boy. It was supposedly accidental, but after some ballistic and forensic evidence came back it pointed otherwise. It's classified as a homicide, but no charges yet.
Current: The mother of the victim is requesting a copy of the 911 call that came in. I have the tape sitting here in my office and after reviewing it, I'm very hesitant to release it to her.
Play by Play: (Brief synopsis) We have a boy here who's been shot. Dispatcher confirms what was said. Boy is still breathing. Minutes go by. Boy's pulse is weakening, dispatchers keeps caller (suspect's mother) calm while reassuring her help is on the way, minutes go by. Mother of suspect gets the brilliant idea to send suspect (her 11 year old son) to the victim's house to notify parents. Minutes go by. Victim no longer has pulse, not breathing. Mother starts CPR, with instructions being given by 911 dispatcher. Minutes go by. Mother of victim shows up on scene. Mother of victim is freaking out, hysterical, as expected. Mother screaming for her son to wake up. Mother grabs phone from suspect mother. WHERE THE F*CK IS THE AMBULANCE? Dispatch reassures her they're on the way. Deputy shows up on scene. Deputy asssists husband of victim's mother (stay with me here) with CPR. Minutes go by. Ambulance shows up.
Current, again: Mother is in a borderline state of psychosis today. She's preparing to film a video presentation on gun safety to be shown at schools, potentially across the nation. She wants 911 tape for part of the video. School Resource Officer and I review 911 tape, again. Unanimous decision. We'll let mother listen to it, if she is sure she wants to, then help her pick out parts to be used in the video.
5 minutes ago: Got call from mother of victim, who I stay in regular contact with. She's crying, hysterically. I ask her if she's ok, to which she tells me no. She's trying to get in to see her Psychologist, but because Victim's Compensation hasn't paid her bill from when this doctor saw her in the hospital they won't see her. I ask her if she's suicidal, or thinks she needs to be Baker Acted, which is a semi voluntary admittance to a psych unit. She isn't, she's just fed up. Fed up with the 'system'. Fed up that a Psychiatrist, of all doctors, won't see her when she's in this emotional state, because of a bill that LEGALLY she is not responsible for, as a victim of a crime.
Is it me, or is there a system breakdown here? Ethically, this doctor should see her, but because of financial reasons he refuses. And here we have people like Tom Cruise saying Psychiatry is horse manure. Obviously he's never been a victim.

Whew. Hurricane Dennis missed us by about 250 miles west. I'm thanking the hurricane Gods for that one. Unfortunately the folks in the panhandle weren't so fortunate, especially after being ravished by Ivan just a few months ago. I know the feeling and though I wanted a hurricane, I'm over it now. The overtime pay is nice, but the damage to the house and fear the kids have just isn't worth it. Sad, this is already the fourth named storm of the year and it's only the beginning of July. We still have 4 more months to deal with this sh!t.
Well..actually 3 months and 21 days. But who's counting?

Austin: Started swimming without his "swimmies" this past weekend. He's so proud of himself (and so are we)! He looks like a little frog in the water, kicking and paddling--but he's doing a great job!
Tyler: Took his training wheels off his bike and practiced riding. Got lots of pictures! He thinks he's pretty cool now, which is very cute! He won't leave the grass and move to the pavement yet, but that's ok by me!
Melissa: Found her first scallop when we went out in the middle of the 'Perfect Storm' Friday. This is the third year she's went with us. The first year the scallops were EVERYWHERE, but so were the jellyfish and she wasn't all about getting in that water! Last year the water was perfect but the scallops were few. This year we had 'white caps on the gulfstream' and a few more scallops than last year, but she was able to find one!
