We made it home alive from our cruise and it was so much fun! I think it was probably the best $600 we've spent in a long long time!

We boarded the boat Thursday around lunchtime, just in time for the buffet. I can't list all of the food, but there was a pretty good selection and it was all Carribean themed. There was a waiter walking around with this cute Jamaican accent passing out fruity drinks. I'm not exactly sure what it was, but it was yummy! We put our bags in our cabin and were pleasantly surprised with a window view! We didn't specifically request a room with a view, but they upgraded us anyway. It was nice, because the rooms are so dark so we were able to tell when morning was, since the rooms don't have (alarm) clocks.

Thursday afternoon we went to the top deck for the sailing party. That was fun, the breeze was really nice so it didn't feel hot at all. Most of Thursday afternoon we spent laying around by the pool, in the sun. We chose the early dinner seating so we would 1. Have time and energy to go out in the evening and 2. Have an appetite for the midnight buffett! Dinner the first night (and every night) was wonderful. They gave us a choice of about 5 different appetizers, including tropical fruits, soups, seafood, vegetarian, etc... Chris and I both chose a different appetizer, both were great. Then we pick from 2 salads and the main course, which was about 6 different choices. We had lobster tails for dinner. We of course ordered seconds and thirds, and tried all kinds of different things on the menu--most of which we would never actually pay for at a restaurant, in case we didn't like it. The desserts were all pretty elaborate as well. We were seated with 3 other fun couples at our table, which was nice...they were pretty much all our age range. One couple was from Tennessee, one from Wisconsin and the other from Arizona.

Thursday night we hung out around the ship doing shows, etc... Friday morning we arrived in Nassau. The weather was beautiful, so after doing some local touristy things we went to Paradise Island/Atlantis for some beach activities. Atlantis was beautiful and I would love to stay there. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't go to the Bahamas again. It was nice to see, but that's about it. Oh--and I was FORCED to sing karaoke at Senor Frog's. :-) Friday's dinner was the same--between us and our new friends Carmen and Brent, we ate probably 6 dozen plates of escargot. Did I mention how great the food was?

Friday night we went out with Brent & Carmen to the clubs. We watched the newlywed-or not so newlywed game. That was hysterical! Then we played bingo and went to the clubs. In the midst of things we hit the midnight buffet which was Mexican themed and danced till the early morning hours on the pool (lido) deck.

Saturday was our "fun day at sea" where we sailed all day. We layed in the sun and relaxed for the majority of the day, went to dinner then met up with Carmen & Brent again and went to more shows (and of course ate again).

I can't begin to describe the food---breakfast buffet or sit down, 24 hour deli/pizzaria, lunch buffet, poolside grill with chicken, hamburgers & hotdogs, dinner buffet, sit down (semi-formal) dinner, 24 hour ice cream bar, midnight buffet, sushi bar, bistro....all included!

I have downloaded our pictures on our home computer, so I'll try to post some when I get a chance--if I can figure out how to do it! If not--they'll be on the family website.

- Baptism - Wednesday, May 18, 2005

Tyler and Austin were baptised last Saturday evening. We've been trying to prepare them for the past couple of months, talking about bible stories, talking about the actual baptism and reminding them there will be a celebration afterwards. Tyler was extremely nervous about it, but he has a very generic book of bible stories that epicts the baby being completely submerged for the baptism. This freaked him out and quite frankly, would me too! Here's our conversation:

Me: Tyler, are you ready to be baptised next week?
Tyler: No
Me: Why not?
Tyler: Because it will hurt
Me: It won't hurt, I promise. (Explain what the priest will do)
Tyler: Well...how long are they going to hold me under water?
Me: Hold you under water?
Tyler: Yeah, in the book they hold the baby under water. How long will I have to be under water?
Me: OOOOH, I see. Well, you see they don't hold you under water, in fact, you barely get wet. Father Austin will pour holy water on your head, each drop representing the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. You'll learn more about this when you go to CCD this fall.
Tyler: Ok, so I don't have to get in water?
Me: Nope!
Tyler: Cool, when do we go?

So, as you can see...he was rightfully terrified. We got to the church and they were somewhat content, but had a little nervous energy (sure, that's what I'll call it!! ha ha.) Once we went up to get them officially baptised they were sooo excited! I picked Tyler up and held him, as he giggled the entire time! Then Chris lifted Austin, and Austin giggled too--by the time he was done, Austin says, that was fun, let's do it again! The priest was so tickled, not only because they did so well, but also because Austin's name is the same as his. Towards the end of the service the boys got very rambunctious, including dancing in the aisle. Father Austin was amused by that, too. At the end of the service, he dedicates a special prayer individually for Chris and I. I've never been to a baptism where they've prayed individually for the parents, but again, Father Austin watched the boys (we sat in the front row) the entire time, so we figure that's where that stemmed from. It was a sign!

- American Idol -

Ok, I have to admit...I've been an AI junkie the past two months. I don't know what it is about this season, but they've got me hooked. Is it Bo Bice? Vonzell Solomen? Carrie Underwood?

In the beginning I really liked Vonzell. Even during the Bo vs. Constantine, I still liked Vonzell. She seemed a little dramatic, but genuinely a good singer. Now, that's not to say I didn't like Bo or Constantine, I do, but they also had a certain annoyance factor too. For example, Bo can only sing rock genre songs. Last week he sang Travis Tritt's Great Day to Be Alive and it was TERRIBLE! He screwed up the 2nd line! EEEK! And Constantine's puppy dog look, you know, the one where he shifts his chin down and looks at and upward angle from his eyes. Got on my nerves. So, after that didn't like him too much. Then there's Carrie. I think she's all around good and the more I see her the more I like her. She's just so cute. My only concern with her is she is a little stiff. She doesn't show a lot of enthusiasm. Maybe just because of the songs she sings.

So...tonight is the night where one of the three, Carrie, Bo or Vonzell gets voted off. I am ready to see Vonzell go and have Carrie and Bo at the finale. And no, I didn't vote.

- I just realized something... - Wednesday, May 04, 2005

When I was on my family website catching up, reading posts, I realized something. 16 days from today is my oldest stepdaughter's last day of high school. It gave me chills (still does)!.

I met Mandy and Melissa in either January or February of 1997. Mandy was 9 years old. I've seen her through braces, perms, soccer, band, slumber parties, boyfriends, basketball...and I'm sure countless other events. I could get all mushy and emotional, but I will spare all of you. I will say that she and her sister Melissa have been and are the most wonderful stepdaughters (and daughters, too) that anyone could ever ask for. Most people cringe when they think of step-children, let alone step parents, but I have been truely lucky. As my step parents could both attest to, I was not the most easy going teenager.

So, Mandy and Melissa, if you read this, I just want to tell you both how proud I am and how lucky I am to have you both as stepdaughters, I couldn't ask for anyone better!

IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!

My name is Kelly and I'm a Victim Advocate. Basically I'm a cross between a social worker and a counselor, without all of the pay & college! In 3 months and 20 days as of this udate I'll be 30 and I'm holdin on with a tight grip!

ME ME ME!

I was a little hesitant when blogging was first introduced to me. I have learned to use and well and now I really like it, in a voyeuristic kind of way. I also use it as my own personal therapy. Though you probably won't understand nor agree with what I post quite often, don't take it personal and don't be offended. After all, it's a blog and that's the fun of it, right?
